​This system will help educators implement a structured, evidence-based approach to improving emotional intelligence (literacy), social competence (behavior), and academic outcomes.
  • Rooted in holistic well-being, this program aligns with the teachings of the medicine wheel, a foundational concept in many Indigenous cultures that represents balance in emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual development.
  • The medicine wheel teaches interconnectedness, guiding individuals to seek harmony within themselves, their relationships, and their communities.
  • By integrating this wisdom, schools can foster a deeper sense of self-awareness, resilience, and collective well-being.​

A School-Wide Approach to Embedded Emotional Intelligence

This program is intentionally designed so that all of its components work symbiotically within both the classroom and the broader school environment. When fully implemented, it becomes seamlessly embedded into daily activities, naturally shaping the way educators and students interact, learn, and grow together. Rather than being an isolated curriculum, it integrates into the fabric of the school culture, reinforcing emotional intelligence in every aspect of learning and engagement.
  • However, to ensure a deep integration, the program initially requires direct and explicit teaching in a structured, sequential manner.
  • Establishing this strong foundation is essential for developing a shared understanding of emotional well-being, both our own and that of others.
  • By following a carefully designed progression, schools and districts can first build core emotional skills before advancing to more complex emotional and cognitive competencies.
  • While some overlap between concepts naturally occurs, adhering to the sequence ensures that each layer of learning strengthens the next, making emotional intelligence a deeply rooted and enduring part of the school community.

K-12 Inclusive and Holistic Support

The Emotional Schools Framework is highly beneficial for elementary, middle, and high schools due to its holistic approach to emotional intelligence, tailored to meet the developmental needs of students at each level. Implementing this framework district-wide ensures consistency, enhances student outcomes, and supports the well-being of both students and staff across all schools.
